Advances in the combination of stem cell exosomes with medical devices - the new direction for combination products

  • Exosomes with nanoscale dimensions always bear the crucial responsibility of affecting tissue development and function. Stem cell-derived exosomes were confirmed to carry various tissue repair components, offering potential in serving disease treatment and regenerative medicine as the natural drugs. However, challenges such as targeted implantation and controlled release during the application of exosomes remain key areas to be addressed to enhance their biological efficacy. The development of medical devices may provide a superior platform for improving drug bioavailability. Therefore, the combination products of stem cell-derived exosomes and medical devices will offer new potential for expanding the therapeutic perspectives of exosomes. This review provides a detailed overview of the research frontier of stem cell-derived exosomes in conjunction with medical devices, and summarizes the prospective challenges and prospects for the future.
