Approved natural-derived nanomedicines for disease treatment

Due to the limitations of conventional therapeutic strategies, including poor drug targeting delivery, insufficient therapeutic effects and significant toxic side effects, there has been a growing focus on exploring innovative drug delivery approaches in recent years. Nanomedicines have been developed with remarkable advantages such as prolonged drug circulation, targeted drug delivery and enhanced bioavailability, promising to improve the clinical treatment of diseases. Natural products/materials-derived nanomedicines with natural-derived therapeutic efficacy, superior biocompatibility and safety play a critical role in nanomedicine-based treatment. This review comprehensively introduces the current approved natural-derived nanomedicines, focusing on the essential properties of natural-derived drug carriers, clinical diagnosis and treatment, and current therapeutic potential and challenges to provide meaningful guidance for their application and development.
